Interview with Dr. Peter Köppel about the superpower of nucleotides

1 Dr. Köppel, nucleotides are an exciting topic in sport. Can you explain in simple terms what nucleotides are and why they are so important for fitness enthusiasts?

Nucleotides are the small building blocks that make up DNA and RNA consist of - i.e. our genetic "building instructions". They also act as "energy carriers" (ATP), messenger substances and building materials for new cells.

Why are they important for fitness enthusiasts?

  • They provide energy: ATP supplies muscles directly with power during training.
  • They help with regeneration: they support the formation and repair of muscle and immune cells.
  • They strengthen the immune system: they help you stay healthy, even when you're under a lot of strain.

Important: Nucleotides are the basic building blocks for energy, regeneration and health - three things that are crucial for athletes.

2. how have your more than 30 years of research on nucleotides influenced the development of your products and what makes them unique for athletes?

They act on very fundamental, cellular level.

Intensive training causes Micro-injuries in the muscles. Nucleotides help that cells are repaired faster and new cells are formed. As a result, muscle soreness can be reduced and the muscles recover more quickly.

Nucleotides are also building blocks of ATP - which is the energy that every cell needs to work. For athletes this means more energy during intensive trainingfaster replenishment after exercise.

Nucleotides are important for intestinal cellsthat absorb nutrients. A healthy gut results in a better nutrient supply and therefore better performance and recovery.

3. recovery is crucial for any training program. How do your nucleotide products help to reduce muscle soreness and recover faster?

Faster cell repair: Nucleotides are basic building blocks for new cells. After intensive training, when muscle fibers have microscopic damage, they support the rebuilding process.

Less inflammation: Some studies show that nucleotides can have an anti-inflammatory effect. This helps to reduce muscle soreness (caused by minor inflammation).

More energy for recovery: As nucleotides are also involved in energy metabolism (ATP), the body has more "fuel" available for healing and adaptation processes.

4. intensive training can weaken the immune system. How do nucleotides help athletes stay healthy and avoid training breaks due to illness?

Sport, especially intensive or prolonged exercise, can weaken the immune system in the short term - this is called the "open-window phase". Nucleotides help to support the formation and activity of white blood cells (defense cells) that fight infections. For athletes, this means a lower risk of falling ill after hard training.

Stress, training and small injuries in muscles or intestinal cells cause microscopic damage. Nucleotides are building blocks for new cells, so the body repairs this damage more quickly. The result: the body remains resilient without the immune system being weakened too much.

Intensive training generates oxidative stress and inflammation. Nucleotides have a supporting effect by helping cells to produce new proteins and enzymes that repair damage more quickly. This keeps the body more stable against training stress.

5. many readers want to increase their endurance or strength. How can nucleotides help you last longer or build more muscle?

Nucleotides are building blocks for ATP, the "energy currency" of cells. ATP is consumed with every movement - regardless of whether you are running, swimming or lifting weights. The advantage for athletes: longer training sessions, less early fatigue because the cells provide energy more efficiently.

Strength training causes microtears in the muscles. Nucleotides support cell division and repair so that muscles grow faster. Result: more muscle mass with the same training because regeneration is more efficient.

Nucleotides help to support the formation of red blood cells. More red blood cells → better oxygen supply to the muscles → longer endurance performance without exhaustion.

6 Cognitive sharpness is crucial in sports such as CrossFit, endurance and strength sports or team sports. Can nucleotides also improve mental performance during training?

The brain consumes a lot of energy, especially during intensive training or matches. Nucleotides are the building blocks of ATP, the universal energy source. Advantage: more energy for brain cells, so that reaction time, concentration and decision-making ability remain stable.

Mental stress or stress during sport can strain neuron cells. Nucleotides support cell division and repair in the brain. Result: mental clarity is maintained, even after intensive training.

Nucleotides are important for neurotransmitters - the chemical messengers that transmit signals in the brain and between the brain and muscles. They are essential for the formation of acetylcholine, for example. Benefits for athletes: faster reflexes, better coordination and responsiveness.

  • Nucleotides supply brain cells with energy
  • support repair and signal transmission in the nervous system
  • strengthen stress resistance
  • and ensure that concentration, reaction time and focus are maintained even in the last training round.

7. how should fitness enthusiasts integrate your products into their daily routine? Are there any tips on dosage, timing or combination with other supplements?

There are already good nucleotide preparations in powder or capsule form, specially developed for athletes.

Advantage: Controlled dosage and easier integration into training.

Athletes should take 500-1500 mg of nucleotides per day (depending on training intensity), divided into 2-5 doses.

Dosage may vary depending on the product - observe manufacturer's instructions.

It is better to take smaller amounts regularly than one large dose.

Nucleotides should always be taken (such as proteins)

Combination with other supplements

  • Protein: supports muscles and regeneration
  • Carbohydrates: improve energy supply
  • Omega-3 or antioxidants: reduce oxidative damage
  • Electrolytes: useful for endurance training
  • Nucleotides work best as part of a balanced regeneration plan, not in isolation.

8. your products are manufactured in Switzerland and are on the Cologne List® for clean sport. Why is this quality so important for athletes and how do you ensure it?

Bad products can contain harmful substances, heavy metals or banned substances. This can lead to health problems for athletes or even pose a doping risk.

Only high-quality products contain the actual amount of nucleotidesthat is stated on the packaging. Inferior products deliver less active ingredientsso that training effects are weaker. Each batch of our products is carefully checked before release to ensure that the specified nucleotide content is exactly as stated

Our production is ISO 22000, Halal, Kosher certified. The products are also tested microbiologically and for heavy metals by external laboratories. Some products are listed on the Cologne List and on Informed Sport (UK).

9. can you share a success story where an athlete has significantly improved their performance or recovery using your nucleotide products?

"Since taking NukleoSports Pro, I need significantly shorter recovery times both during training and in the training phases. This feeling was clearly confirmed during my participation in this year's Ötztaler Cycle Marathon: During the race, I was able to recover very well from the high-intensity phases even in the last third and pedal my targeted wattage values. Last year, without taking NukleoSports Pro, I experienced a continuous drop in performance during the same marathon. This season, supported by NukleoSports Pro, I was able to increase my FTP by another 15 W with the same amount of training." - Ece Lara Cube (Vegana Natura Athletes Program)

I really have to say that I noticed a difference in the first few days/training sessions, I felt more energy and less tired quickly. There was also nothing more to do with the allergy and I haven't taken the allergy tablets since then, just the Immune Cell every Morgen👌🏼 really everything very positiv💪🏼

- Korbinian Holzer professional ice hockey player (Vegana Natura Athletes Program)

Have been using Nucleo Sports Pro daily for a while now, and I can genuinely say that it has made a significant difference in my training and recovery. I quickly noticed an improvement in my endurance, allowing me to complete my games and trainings with more energy. Additionally, my recovery after intense sessions has become much faster, enabling me to train more frequently without feeling fatigued.

10. nucleotides sound very promising, but are there any possible side effects or precautions that athletes should be aware of when using nucleotide products?

With the usual dosages (approx. 300-500 mg per day), side effects are very rare: People with a genetic predisposition to gout may experience a brief exacerbation. Without such a predisposition, no cases of gout have been recorded.
